The City of The Dalles built a skate park in memory of Ben Rockwell.
Our show's Technical Producer, John Rockwell, was with us for the final mix-down of our orchestra version of the China Clipper Theme. As the announcer of the radio-show, he was very familiar with what he called, "the music bed". It was while we were in the studio that John received the heart breaking news that his father, mother, and oldest son Benjamin had been killed in an airplane crash in Texas. The event just took the wind right out of all of our sails. And, the show closed. Ben had been an avid skateboard enthusiast; and was loved by all. His dream was to have a skateboard park in The Dalles. So, it is only fitting that his dream supercedes any of our own. We are proud to have known him and will fondly remember him at this website.

Editor's Note--The park overlooks the mighty Columbia River and the Fort Rock site where Lewis and Clark had camped over two-hundred years ago. Ironically, this is also where they recouperated, having just survived the "gut-wrenching" narrows (raging white-waters) at Celilo Falls. There is a similarity of obstacles then; as with those of todays youth as they ride through their own obstacles here at the park--or in life?
