Fiddles have played a role around many a campfire, from the days of Lewis and Clark to this century. This song is about an indian girl who loved to walk a river trail in the dark, just to get to place where she could dance to the music. It is said she just "loved to hear those fiddles wail". Deep in what is now called the Wild and Scenic section of the famous Rogue River. One may still visit the river lodge which she founded near the turn of this century; Marial's Lodge.
